Mary Whipple

Mary is a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and has been a part of three Olympic Women's eight teams. She, along with her teammates, successfully defended their 2008 Olympic gold this past summer at the 2012 London Olympics completing a 6-year winning streak in the women’s eight event. In addition to winning the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, her crew was named the 2008 World Rowing Female Crew of the Year by FISA, the international governing body of rowing. In her first appearance as the coxswain of the Olympic eight in Athens 2004, she and her team set a world record in the heat and won a silver medal in the finals. Mary has coxed the women's team to five world championships. Mary has a Master’s Degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington, which she uses to mentor her students through her company, The 9th Seat. She has been named one of the 2012 US Olympic Team for Tomorrow Athlete Ambassadors – in this role she will be sharing her Olympic journey and her passion for rowing with children at Boys and Girls Clubs and YMCAs. Mary brings her talents and world class motivational skills to Flywheel as an instructor based in the Seattle region.
